End of an era as Lobby closes; assets up for grabs on Allbids

27/01/2017

The Lobby restaurant in Parkes (in the National Rose Gardens of Old Parliament House) and its sister cafe, Porkbarrel, have closed, and more than $300,000 worth of shop fit-out, including tables, chairs, glassware, crockery and catering equipment are being auctioned unreserved on Allbids. The iconic main restaurant first opened in 1968, and has since become one of the most well-known fine dining and function locations in Canberra.A former staff member who contacted us said, “It’s very sad. The restaurant was just two years away from turning 50, and it’s seen many significant events in its time – including playing host to hundreds of weddings over the years.”The owner was unable to comment on the closure of the restaurant for legal reasons but said, “The business is very confident that all entitlements and accounts will be finalised with the proceeds of the auction.”The owner was also hopeful that a long-running dispute with the landlord, the National Capital Authority, was close to settlement too.Any funds received in such a settlement would be used to pay entitlements, the owner said.“As an ethical business person I just want to ensure that every staff member receives all of their entitlements, and that’s what auctioning off the assets will help us do.”Rob Evans, CEO of Allbids, says, “It’s the end of a Canberra era. It was the only restaurant of its kind and has been around for longer than new Parliament House. The owners have worked really hard to keep it open, but it seems it’s no longer possible.“We have everything on sale unreserved until Monday at 7pm. There is over $300,000 worth of shop fit-out, including tables, chairs, almost brand-new glassware, plates, catering equipment and more.”To see what’s available or to make a bid, head to Allbids.com.auThis article was first published at The RiotACT Website https://the-riotact.com/end-of-an-era-as-lobby-closes-assets-up-for-grabs-on-allbids/193843

Auctions powerhouse allbids acquires classies veteran allclassifieds

28/09/2016

Digital pioneers Peter and Andrea Blackshaw have sold allclassifieds.com.au, the former sister site of the real estate giant allhomes, to Canberra online sales platform allbids. It follows the $50 million sale of their ground-breaking real estate platform to Fairfax in 2014.The allclassifieds owners accepted the proposal from the team behind the allbids.com.au auction platform to acquire their online marketplace earlier today. The purchase price was not disclosed.Founded in 2001, allclassifieds had grown to become Canberra’s most popular classifieds website. The Blackshaws held onto the platform after exiting allhomes, investing time and money to improve its reach and functionality. A new-look interface was revealed earlier this year.Allbids, which was founded in 2001 by Rob Evans, has grown exponentially since its start-up days. The site sells unwanted assets and surplus and liquidated stock for government agencies, organisations, SMEs and individuals. The acquisition of allclassifieds will position it as one of the largest and most powerful online sales platforms in the country.Rob Evans, CEO and founder of allbids said he was delighted to be expanding into the online classifieds market.“The alignment of allbids and allclassifieds allows us to apply our strengths in auctioneering and online sales to a new and diverse consumer marketplace,” he said.“A close relationship between the two sites will really benefit our buyers and sellers, with a greater variety of items, increased traffic and the opportunity to reach more customers. It will offer users the ultimate solution to selling their surplus and secondhand items: from cars and computers to industrial equipment, antiques, household appliances, art and a whole lot more.”The Blackshaws said they were very pleased to be selling allclassifieds to another respected and successful Canberra-based company.“Rob has great plans for the business and we feel allclassifieds will flourish working side by side with allbids,” Mr Blackshaw said. The RiotACT reported last week that Mr Blackshaw and former allhomes CEO and former allclassifieds Director Tim White have invested in the Asia-Pacific-focused Digital Classifieds Group. This article was first published on The Riot ACT Website by Rachel Ziv https://the-riotact.com/auctions-powerhouse-allbids-acquires-classies-veteran-allclassifieds/185607

Michael Buhagiar Cup Trivia Night – Supporting Lifeline Canberra and RUOK?Day

13/09/2016

Tammi Horton, Canberra City & Suburban Cricket Association & Last Man Stands Canberra T20 Cricket have come together over the last two years to raise awareness of suicide prevention in the ACT region.  The running the Michael Buhagiar Cup T20 Winter Cricket competition and annual trivia night and auction has raised just over $10,000 for Lifeline Canberra & The RUOK?Day Foundation.  In 2014 we’re aiming to double that amount. The Buhagiar Cup was first held by the CCSCA in 2010 and remembers the life of long time CCSCA and Cricket ACT player Michael Buhagiar who tragically took his own life after suffering and struggling with depression for many years.Tammi Horton, Michael’s wife said“Michael suffered depression most of his adult life. It didn’t always inhibit his daily life but it was like a deep little demon that surfaced every now and then and at times was debilitating. Cricket was a huge part of Michael’s life, Michael not only loved the game but loved the day of chatting with the boys about everything and nothing. He wasn’t one to pick up the phone and call his mates for those chats so really looked forward to Saturdays. It was also an escape for Michael. There are so many resources available to those living with depression however the struggle lies in knowing what it is and where to find it. The first steps are often the hardest, but are vital and a lifeline to someone facing the darkness of suicide. We can’t do anything for Michael now but through the very sad loss and raising awareness we can hope to save another life and another family from the devastation that suicide leaves behind”In 2014 proceeds from the trivia night will go to Lifeline Canberra to assist with the ongoing services that they provide within the region. You can book a table and/or tickets to the night by emailing michaelbuhagiarcuptrivianight@gmail.com.This year ALLBIDS.COM.AU will be hosting the items to be auctioned off.  Photos of these items can be seen on the Last Man Stands Canberra Facebook page by following this link . These items have been donated by a couple of local collectors and 50% of the profits will go to Lifeline Canberra.Food will be available to be purchased from the Abbey on the night. If you have special dietary requirements please contact events@theabbey.com.au prior to the night. We hope that you can come along to a great night of Trivia and if you can’t that maybe you can head over to ALLBIDS.COM.AU and bid on a few items to raise money for this great cause.– Tammi Horton, Last Man Stands Canberra T20 Cricket & Canberra City & Suburban Cricket Association.Michael Buhagiar Cup Trivia NightWhen: Friday 19th September 2014Where: The Abbey Gold Creek from 6:30 pmTickets: $30 each or $250 for a table of 10Can’t get a enough people for a table? Last Call for Bids
All auctions are set to close at a certain time.If a winning bid is placed within the last 5 minutes of the set closing time, the closing time will be extended automatically by a further 5 minutes. If a bid is placed within 1 minute of closing time, and that bid is immediately beaten by another bidder's proxy bid, the auction will be extended for 1 minute to give you a chance to rebid. This likens the Auction to live auction where the bidding only ends when everyone is certain they do not want to place a further bid. It also stops the winning bidder “sniping” a bid 1 second before the end of an auction. How it works:
  • Auction closes at 7.30:00 PM
  • The bidding is at $90A bid is placed at $100 at 7:29:10 PM
  • The new close time for the auction is set at 7:35:00 PM
  • At 7.30:00 the last call comes again.
  • If there is a winning bid placed between 7:30:00 PM and 7:35:00 PM the new close will be 7:40:00 PM.
Example of a 1 min Extension for bids that got beaten by proxy:
  • Auction closes at 7.30:00 PMThe bidding is at $90
  • A bid is placed at $100 at 7:29:30 PM, but get beaten by a proxy bid.
  • The bidding is at $105
  • The new close time for the auction is set at 7.30:30 PM
  • If there is a winning bid placed between 7:29:30 PM and 7:30:30 PM the new close will be 7:35:30 PM.

Our success stories / testimonials OR don't take our word for it...

Menslink
Menslink

Allbids provide an outstanding service to charities like Menslink in a number of ways.

Firstly, Allbids helps us reach audiences well beyond the capacity of Menslink. We’re a very small charity, but having their online platform enables us to achieve much better results than what’s possible with our own resources. At our last auction - which raised over $100,000 for us - we had bidders from all around Australia bid on our items - Allbids managed the payments and collection for us without any issues.

Secondly, Allbids staff were on hand during our Big Night Out to manage the whole process - setting out the displays, helping guests at tables bid for silent auction, managing payments - they couldn't have been more helpful.

Finally, Allbids are always available for the items that we might get to auction from time to time - nothing is too much trouble for them.

Their support for Menslink - and other charities - over the years has been fantastic. They've helped promote our work to their clients, helped us raise far more money from auction items than we could have alone or on other platforms and have been a delight to work with. I could not recommend them more highly and hope to continue the partnership for many years to come

Karinya House
Karinya House

I am writing to extend our sincere appreciation to ALLBids for their recent support of our 2017 Karinya House Annual Mother’s Day Gala Dinner, held on 5 May 2016. We especially thank Jo, Louise and the ALLBIDS staff who assisted with the online auction pages for Karinya House. The support also provided by Jo, Louise and the team at the event itself and post the event to finalise the auction was also outstanding and so greatly appreciated.

Karinya House for Mothers and Babies is a community based, not for profit organisation serving the ACT and surrounding regions. In its twentieth year of operation, Karinya provides supported accommodation and outreach services to pregnant and parenting women in crises and their children. In August 2016 Karinya, with specialist funding for construction from the ACT Government, opened its new Home and transitioned to our purpose-built facility, doubling residential capacity, and creating a designated area for specialised outreach and group services. This new facility, whilst significantly enhancing service delivery, has also increased our annual operating budget.

This is the first year we have had the availability of an Online Auction House to support the Gala Dinner. The Gala Dinner is our premier fundraising event, and it is vital to us that the event generates as much financial support as possible. We were unaware prior to be contacting by Louise, that ALLBIDS offered the Online Auction service to Not for Profit Organisations entirely free of any sales commissions or other fees and charges. We were somewhat apprehensive, as is the case with something new and untried at times, but Louise and Jo, at our first meeting were completely assured that the ALLBIDS service would be fantastic and easy. They, and the ALLBIDS processes and outcomes, did not disappoint. And the whole ALLBIDS experience and result far exceeded our expectations!

As a community based organisation, it is important to note, that we generate around half of our operating revenue each year through financial donations and sponsorships from Corporates, Philanthropic Trusts & Foundations, local businesses, individuals and families. In addition we are supported through pro bono professional services as well as in kind material donations.

The support of ALLBIDS through their Charity & Community Auctions service is an outstanding and innovative form of community engagement. ALLBIDS are to be congratulated on providing this wonderful service and supporting community service organisations such as Karinya House. I am pleased to confirm that for Karinya House, the addition of ALLBIDS as part of our Gala Dinner Event and Team (sorry we are claiming your team as part of our team now!) made a significant difference to the fundraising proceeds from the auction component of our Gala Dinner. Proceeds from the Auction were 73% higher than the prior year’s Gala Dinner. This is outstanding, and it certainly gives us impetus to source a greater number of donations for next year’s Gala Dinner Auctions.

We are very thankful to have ALLBIDS as part of our Karinya family. We do hope this partnership will be one we can rely on for future events. Please extend our thanks to the ALLBIDS Board, Executive and Staff Team for the support provided for the 2017 Gala Dinner. I commend ALLBIDS for their demonstrated professional competence, experience, and dedication, as well as their generosity and example in corporate citizenship and care for some of the most vulnerable women and children in our community.

Car Purchase
Car Purchase

I bought my son a ford laser on here and although it was older (1991) I didn't expect much for our $1200 spent ! Especially considering it had 12months rego. I couldn't have had a more pleasant surprise ! It's a pearler and we found out later my folks new the owner and he was a mechanic who lived opposite them and he nurtured it. It had service books up to date and it runs so so well, uses no oil or water and has brand new tyres ! It's a 1.8 ghia too . The paint is great and the interior is as new . Needless to say my son loves it and has already fitted some nice alloy wheels and a kick ass stereo. The car is Worth twice what we paid for it at retail Level ! All bids rock. Thanks !!!! This is a true testimonial by a real customer !!! I'm not the type to do this either BUT was just so impressed.

No hesitation recommending ALLBIDS service
No hesitation recommending ALLBIDS service

I approached Allbids to assist me to liquidate the plant and equipment owned by one of my clients. The client owned and operated a quarry on the outskirts of Canberra

Following an illness the client needed to completely restructure their business, which resulted in client selling off all the business assets

Due to the size and scale of the operation all the equipment was sold from the existing location. This saved the client valuable time and money by not having to pay removal costs and freight.

Allbids took complete control of the whole operation and used their extensive database to access buyers. The complete process was seamless with Allbids managing all inspections, enquiries, delivery and logistics whilst providing me with a complete audit trail for each asset sold.

I have no hesitation in recommending the services of Allbids. They turned the surplus assets of our client into cash.

Recent car purchase
Recent car purchase

I bought an excellent Subaru L1800 wagon via Allbids' auction site, and I want to report back that the car was in excellent condition, as described. The photos were accurate and showed what I needed to see as a potential buyer.  We were able to inspect the car on location, including starting it and letting it run, and testing the clutch and brakes.

The staff were friendly and helpful. For me, this was a really good experience all around, and I recommend Allbids unreservedly to potential bidders.

Allbids is a brilliant website/service

I would like to say that Allbids is a brilliant website/service.  For our family it serves as a valuable resource in locating goods we need to buy, as well as purchasing some great bargains.  It has been a fantastic way for me to make some extra cash by selling unwanted goods that we no longer use.

Furnished with items purchased from Allbids

We are building a house and also renovating two existing cottages on a rural property. We have found Allbids to be an excellent source of materials for the renovation job - the cottages will be largely furnished with items purchased from Allbids, and we are using recycled building materials and tools - many of which are also from Allbids.

It will be 12 months before the projects are finished but I will send you photos when complete - might be useful as an example of what can be achieved with the services of Allbids. Thanks again
