The Foundation works to grow giving and goodwill so everybody wins. Its objectives are to:
- Increase awareness and conversations about need in the Canberra community
- Provide an easier way for Canberrans to give to local charities
- Encourage community philanthropy – to facilitate better outcomes for our charities and people in-need
- Build capacity through volunteers and mentors, skills and services, in cash and kind.
There are over 150 local charities associated with Hands Across Canberra.

How does it work?
Canberra's Biggest Garage Sale asks for pre-loved goods to be donated and auctioned online with proceeds given to Canberra's most vulnerable through the Hands Across Canberra Foundation or directly to the nominated associated charity.
Getting involved is simple and listing your item is easy:
- Register with ALLBIDS and create your account
- Validate your account
- Post your item
Once the auction concludes:
- Your item is sold and paid for by highest bidder
- ALLBIDS introduces both parties to complete pick-up of sold item
- Both parties agree on a mutually acceptable time to collect the item
- Buyer notifies ALLBIDS about the successful collection of item from seller
- The proceeds are donated directly to Hands Across Canberra or nominated charity
