Michael Buhagiar Cup Trivia Night – Supporting Lifeline Canberra and RUOK?Day

Tammi Horton, Canberra City & Suburban Cricket Association & Last Man Stands Canberra T20 Cricket have come together over the last two years to raise awareness of suicide prevention in the ACT region. The running the Michael Buhagiar Cup T20 Winter Cricket competition and annual trivia night and auction has raised just over $10,000 for Lifeline Canberra & The RUOK?Day Foundation. In 2014 we’re aiming to double that amount.
The Buhagiar Cup was first held by the CCSCA in 2010 and remembers the life of long time CCSCA and Cricket ACT player Michael Buhagiar who tragically took his own life after suffering and struggling with depression for many years.
Tammi Horton, Michael’s wife said
“Michael suffered depression most of his adult life. It didn’t always inhibit his daily life but it was like a deep little demon that surfaced every now and then and at times was debilitating. Cricket was a huge part of Michael’s life, Michael not only loved the game but loved the day of chatting with the boys about everything and nothing. He wasn’t one to pick up the phone and call his mates for those chats so really looked forward to Saturdays. It was also an escape for Michael.
There are so many resources available to those living with depression however the struggle lies in knowing what it is and where to find it. The first steps are often the hardest, but are vital and a lifeline to someone facing the darkness of suicide.
We can’t do anything for Michael now but through the very sad loss and raising awareness we can hope to save another life and another family from the devastation that suicide leaves behind”
In 2014 proceeds from the trivia night will go to Lifeline Canberra to assist with the ongoing services that they provide within the region.

This year ALLBIDS.COM.AU will be hosting the items to be auctioned off. Photos of these items can be seen on the Last Man Stands Canberra Facebook page by following this link . These items have been donated by a couple of local collectors and 50% of the profits will go to Lifeline Canberra.
Food will be available to be purchased from the Abbey on the night. If you have special dietary requirements please contact events@theabbey.com.au prior to the night.

Tickets: $30 each or $250 for a table of 10
