Four Poster Bed from the Winter Bed Vigil

9/09/2013

Winter Bed Vigil

For 72 hours in wintery August weather the Winter Bed Vigil, a four poster bed art installation in Civic Square, was the centre of a public awareness campaign on homelessness in Canberra. The idea was the brainchild of Robyn Archer Artistic Director Centenary of Canberra and Holly Rankin Smith of Bighart and was supported by the ACT Government through the Centenary of Canberra. Looking like something out of a fairy story or a ship in full sale with its white drapes floating in the wind the bed was an impressive sight.Among those who braved the rain and gale force winds to spent time in the bed were Robyn Archer Artistic Director of the Centenary of Canberra, Gai Brodtmann MP, Gary Humphries, Geoff Pryor popular Canberra Times cartoonist, Andrew Leigh MP and Andrew Wall MLA. Helpers included friends and members of Common Ground Canberra. Visitors to the installation were very supportive of the project and donated generously to the cause. The four-poster bed is now available to buy through an online auction at www.allbids.com.au, with all proceeds of the sale to go to Common Ground Canberra. The package is valued in excess of $1000 and includes the bed, queen-size mattress, electric blanket and never used doona cover, sheet set and 6 pillow slips.Donations can be made direct to Common Ground Canberra for a new facility for the homeless and those with a low income. Visit Hands Across Canberra for more information.Inquiries to Gwen Wilcox Director Common Ground Canberra 0402 014 728Common Ground Canberra is working with the ACT Government to establish a housing development in Canberra based on the Common Ground Model with a mix of 50 per cent homeless and 50 per cent low income individuals and families. The ACT government has provided a site in Gungahlin for the building of 40 one and two bedroom units. The ACT Government has provided $7.6 million and the Commonwealth has provide $4.1 million for the project to be completed by December 2014.The Common Ground approach aims to end chronic homelessness. It recognises that the chronically homeless need more than a roof – they need a home.It is a partnership between community groups, the private sector and the government to deliver a permanent solution by providing housing with on-site support services tailored to each individual and focused on improving their health, well being and life skills. The Common Ground Model creates a strong base which assists and supports the move from homelessness into permanent supported housing. It provides an environment and community for people who have previously been vulnerable and living on the streets. The development will be a secure facility with a 24 hour caretaker and security access to the building by residents. One of the fundamental features of the Common Ground approach is that housing is of very high quality and suited to its environment. For many of these people they will for the first time have a high quality, well maintained residence that they can take pride in and call home.Common Ground believes that this development will provide opportunities for homeless people who have had little opportunity and little support in their lives so far. The evidence from other Common Ground developments is that this approach works, ending the cycle of homelessness in which some people have become trapped. There are Common Ground projects already up and running in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney with others being built in other Australian cities. They have attracted positive reactions from local residents due to features such as the quality of the buildings and the attention paid to security. Common Ground is confident that a similar development in Canberra will also be successful and integrate well into the community and environment.

10 Tips For Successful Bidding

20/07/2013

Helpful Tips

Knowing how to bid at an online auction is just as important as what you are bidding on!Online auctions are a great way to purchase items these days.Sites such as ALLBIDS, Ebay, UBid or Yahoo auctions can find you that perfect product you are looking for. However, not everything you buy is top quality, nor is everyone who sells ethical. Before actually bidding on an item, there are 10 things you should do.1. Know what you are bidding on, and what its value really is. If it is an item seen in retail stores, make sure the price is reasonable, especially if you are going to be paying shipping. Make note of whether the item in question is a new, reconditioned or used product. This will help you come up with your maximum price.2. Check multiple online auctions sites before placing a bid. Professional auctioneers will list the same item on multiple sites, and those sites that are not as popular as Ebay may have a lower price for the same exact item. Often there are less bidders as well at these sites, which will give you a greater probability of getting your item at a lower price.3. View the merchant’s rating. Most auction sites have a rating system for sellers which is based on buyer feedback. Note how many transactions that the merchant has had. A 98% satisfaction rating on a merchant with 400 transactions holds more weight than a merchant with 100% satisfaction rate with 3 transactions. Also, if you can view the complaints, see what they were specifically, such as slow shipping or if the item was not as specified.4. Check what type of warranty the seller offers. Be wary if you have to accept a product when no replacement is offered if the item is defective. Reputable sellers will have some sort of replacement procedure if your item arrives broken, or if you are unsatisfied with it.5. Understand the payment options. Some merchants only accept certain types of payments, such as PayPal. Others accept credit cards, checks, money orders, etc. You need to make sure that you are able to pay with the proper method of payment. If you win a bid and cannot pay, this can result in your auction account being cancelled.6. Read the product description thoroughly. If there isn’t quite enough information for you, contact the seller. They should be happy to give you more information if you request it. You are spending money, so get all the information you need!7. Know what your maximum price is for the item, and stick to it. Do not get into a bidding war, as you will end up paying much more than you should. Also take into account what the shipping cost is when calculating your maximum bid. Most sellers have the shipping cost in the product description, or will provide a UPS or USPS calculator for you to calculate shipping.8. Take note of when the auction starts and ends. Also note the shipping time (which most sellers note for you). This way you can decide if the time it will take for you to actually receive the item is acceptable for you to place a bid.9. Don’t be afraid to bid early. Putting in a bid will show others that you are interested in an item, enough to ‘stake your claim’, but don’t bid your maximum right away. This may make bidders who have a lower maximum bid move on to another listing of this item which has no bids.10. Keep checking on your bid. Many auction sites have an option to do automatic bidding for you up to your maximum, however there are advantages to doing it manually. You can watch a bid right near where it ends and put in your bids to grab the item. Some bidders may not be paying attention to when the auction ends, or may have reached their maximum already. You can also invest in auction software called ‘sniping’ software. This automates the bidding for you in the last 5 minutes of an auction to get in the very last bid. Of course, others who use this type of software can making bidding frustrating for you!Follow these 10 tips and you should have a successful bidding experience – even if you don’t win the auction!

Ferrari: The Most Powerful Brand in the World
A recent report showed that Ferrari is the most powerful brand in the world, one of a handful of companies  – along with Google, Rolex, Coca-Cola and Disney –  to be awarded the AAA+ Rating.“The prancing horse on a yellow badge is instantly recognizable the world over, even where paved roads have yet to reach. In its home country and among its many admirers worldwide Ferrari inspires more than just brand loyalty, more of a cultish, even quasi-religious devotion, its brand power is indisputable.”It is with great pleasure that we can tell you that ALLBIDS currently has two very different versions of these magnificent vehicles closing soon. The first is a 1982 model, most famously associated with the Tom Selleck’s legendary character of that time: Magnum P.I. The white slacks, Hawaiian shirts and macho moustache (a brand in itself) powered Selleck to superstardom. His close relationship with his car no doubt enhanced the image of himself, his show and Ferrari itself. The second Ferrari on sale is a far more powerful beast. Originally sold for around $400K, the Ferrari 360 Spider is much closer to the F1 program than its predecessor. With just 60,000km on the clock, this incredible machine style to burn. Not to mention its size, strength, muscle and the unforgettable rumble of its mid-mounted 3.6L V8 400Hp engine. These sort of opportunities don’t come around that often, so if you have ever wanted to own a Ferrari, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!05/2003 Ferrari 360 Spider Coupe Rossa Corse Red 3.6L Closes 26/02/2014 7:30 PM  1982 Ferrari 308 GTSi Coupe Rossa Corse Red 3.0L Closes 6/03/2014 7:30 PM

Our success stories / testimonials OR don't take our word for it...

Menslink
Menslink

Allbids provide an outstanding service to charities like Menslink in a number of ways.

Firstly, Allbids helps us reach audiences well beyond the capacity of Menslink. We’re a very small charity, but having their online platform enables us to achieve much better results than what’s possible with our own resources. At our last auction - which raised over $100,000 for us - we had bidders from all around Australia bid on our items - Allbids managed the payments and collection for us without any issues.

Secondly, Allbids staff were on hand during our Big Night Out to manage the whole process - setting out the displays, helping guests at tables bid for silent auction, managing payments - they couldn't have been more helpful.

Finally, Allbids are always available for the items that we might get to auction from time to time - nothing is too much trouble for them.

Their support for Menslink - and other charities - over the years has been fantastic. They've helped promote our work to their clients, helped us raise far more money from auction items than we could have alone or on other platforms and have been a delight to work with. I could not recommend them more highly and hope to continue the partnership for many years to come

Karinya House
Karinya House

I am writing to extend our sincere appreciation to ALLBids for their recent support of our 2017 Karinya House Annual Mother’s Day Gala Dinner, held on 5 May 2016. We especially thank Jo, Louise and the ALLBIDS staff who assisted with the online auction pages for Karinya House. The support also provided by Jo, Louise and the team at the event itself and post the event to finalise the auction was also outstanding and so greatly appreciated.

Karinya House for Mothers and Babies is a community based, not for profit organisation serving the ACT and surrounding regions. In its twentieth year of operation, Karinya provides supported accommodation and outreach services to pregnant and parenting women in crises and their children. In August 2016 Karinya, with specialist funding for construction from the ACT Government, opened its new Home and transitioned to our purpose-built facility, doubling residential capacity, and creating a designated area for specialised outreach and group services. This new facility, whilst significantly enhancing service delivery, has also increased our annual operating budget.

This is the first year we have had the availability of an Online Auction House to support the Gala Dinner. The Gala Dinner is our premier fundraising event, and it is vital to us that the event generates as much financial support as possible. We were unaware prior to be contacting by Louise, that ALLBIDS offered the Online Auction service to Not for Profit Organisations entirely free of any sales commissions or other fees and charges. We were somewhat apprehensive, as is the case with something new and untried at times, but Louise and Jo, at our first meeting were completely assured that the ALLBIDS service would be fantastic and easy. They, and the ALLBIDS processes and outcomes, did not disappoint. And the whole ALLBIDS experience and result far exceeded our expectations!

As a community based organisation, it is important to note, that we generate around half of our operating revenue each year through financial donations and sponsorships from Corporates, Philanthropic Trusts & Foundations, local businesses, individuals and families. In addition we are supported through pro bono professional services as well as in kind material donations.

The support of ALLBIDS through their Charity & Community Auctions service is an outstanding and innovative form of community engagement. ALLBIDS are to be congratulated on providing this wonderful service and supporting community service organisations such as Karinya House. I am pleased to confirm that for Karinya House, the addition of ALLBIDS as part of our Gala Dinner Event and Team (sorry we are claiming your team as part of our team now!) made a significant difference to the fundraising proceeds from the auction component of our Gala Dinner. Proceeds from the Auction were 73% higher than the prior year’s Gala Dinner. This is outstanding, and it certainly gives us impetus to source a greater number of donations for next year’s Gala Dinner Auctions.

We are very thankful to have ALLBIDS as part of our Karinya family. We do hope this partnership will be one we can rely on for future events. Please extend our thanks to the ALLBIDS Board, Executive and Staff Team for the support provided for the 2017 Gala Dinner. I commend ALLBIDS for their demonstrated professional competence, experience, and dedication, as well as their generosity and example in corporate citizenship and care for some of the most vulnerable women and children in our community.

I couldn't have had a more pleasant surprise ! It's a pearler and we found out later my folks new the owner and he was a mechanic who lived opposite them and he nurtured it. It had service books up to date and it runs so so well, uses no oil or water and has brand new tyres ! It's a 1.8 ghia too . The paint is great and the interior is as new . Needless to say my son loves it and has already fitted some nice alloy wheels and a kick ass stereo. The car is Worth twice what we paid for it at retail Level ! All bids rock. Thanks !!!! This is a true testimonial by a real customer !!! I'm not the type to do this either BUT was just so impressed.

No hesitation recommending ALLBIDS service
No hesitation recommending ALLBIDS service

I approached Allbids to assist me to liquidate the plant and equipment owned by one of my clients. The client owned and operated a quarry on the outskirts of Canberra

Following an illness the client needed to completely restructure their business, which resulted in client selling off all the business assets

Due to the size and scale of the operation all the equipment was sold from the existing location. This saved the client valuable time and money by not having to pay removal costs and freight.

Allbids took complete control of the whole operation and used their extensive database to access buyers. The complete process was seamless with Allbids managing all inspections, enquiries, delivery and logistics whilst providing me with a complete audit trail for each asset sold.

I have no hesitation in recommending the services of Allbids. They turned the surplus assets of our client into cash.

Recent car purchase
Recent car purchase

I bought an excellent Subaru L1800 wagon via Allbids' auction site, and I want to report back that the car was in excellent condition, as described. The photos were accurate and showed what I needed to see as a potential buyer.  We were able to inspect the car on location, including starting it and letting it run, and testing the clutch and brakes.

The staff were friendly and helpful. For me, this was a really good experience all around, and I recommend Allbids unreservedly to potential bidders.

Allbids is a brilliant website/service
Allbids is a brilliant website/service

I would like to say that Allbids is a brilliant website/service.  For our family it serves as a valuable resource in locating goods we need to buy, as well as purchasing some great bargains.  It has been a fantastic way for me to make some extra cash by selling unwanted goods that we no longer use.

Furnished with items purchased from Allbids
Furnished with items purchased from Allbids

We are building a house and also renovating two existing cottages on a rural property. We have found Allbids to be an excellent source of materials for the renovation job - the cottages will be largely furnished with items purchased from Allbids, and we are using recycled building materials and tools - many of which are also from Allbids.

It will be 12 months before the projects are finished but I will send you photos when complete - might be useful as an example of what can be achieved with the services of Allbids. Thanks again
