How to care for your Pearls and other facts
The use of any of the following products or actions will damage your delicate pearls.

Source: www.newcastlejewellery.com.au-

* Do not use ultrasonic cleaners* Avoid chemicals, especially hair spray, perfume etc* Do not use stiff brushes* Cleaning will often stretch the stringing* Do not allow pearls to be jumbled around in a jewelry box with harder jewelleryDid you know natural pearls are virtually non-existent in today’s market?Pearls are created by molluscs,  a mollusc is a sea creature that has a hard outer shell and no backbone. Pearls can be made naturally or with man’s assistance, when men have played a part in creating the pearl, it’s called a ‘cultured pearl’.Natural pearls are created when the mollusc coats a substance, usually sand. Although pearls look and feel smooth, they actually have a microscopically rough crystalline surface.Freshwater pearls are created in a freshwater mussel. They have improved dramatically from the early “rice bubble” pearls to now rival the quality of salt-water pearls.Cultured pearls are really the same, except that the irritant, often a bead of mother-of pearl, or piece of the mantle, is implanted in the mollusc.Historically cultured pearls have been produced by saltwater molluscs, but over the past couple of decades, Freshwater Cultured Pearls have become a very important part of the market.Saltwater pearls include Akoya (Japanese) South Sea and Tahitian. Fun fact: Tahitian pearls are really just black or very dark South Sea Pearls – they may not have come from Tahiti!Did you know?
  • Pearls are quite soft and require more care than most other gems. Pearls have around the hardness of a finger nail to a copper coin. Pearls have a hardness of a finger nail to the hardness of copper coin!
  • Almost ALL pearls on the market today are cultured.
  • It can be extremely difficult to identify natural pearls without using X-rays or an endoscope.
  • Pearls can be bleached, dyed, heated, irradiated or coated. Most treatments are permanent.
  • Freshwater pearls occur as white or pastel colours. Over-bright colours and black Freshwater Pearls have been treated, usually by dyeing.
  • Pearl Grading is not an exact science. Grading depends on shape (round is more expensive) lustre, thickness of the skin, blemishes, colour and treatments.

Spreading the love with an auction for Life 4 Lucie
Every now and again we come across causes that we just can’t say no to. Life 4 Lucie is one of themWe first heard about Lucie Davies-Clark from one of our charity partners in Sydney. Lucie has been living with Multiple Sclerosis for the past ten years and is just about to embark on a four month stem-cell treatment trial at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney to try and halt this horrendous disease. And we truly wish Lucie all the best.To do our bit, Allbids rann a charity auction in support of An Evening for Lucie, a fundraising event in Manly, Sydney, held on Saturday 30 August. Items auctioned included original artwork, sporting & musical memorabilia, accommodation, dining and a whole lot more. All funds raised  assisted Lucie with her much needed MS treatment.Thank you to everyone who contributed.

What kind of bidder are you?

Source: http://cdn-www.cracked.com/articleimages/dan/forumdisorder/reload.jpg

Most of us have purchased something online – clothing, home wares, tools. Many of us opt for the ‘buy now’ items to avoid the pressure of bidding on items, the purchase is certain and it’s instant. Other people however are avid online bidders, who love a bargain and the thrill of it. There are certain types of bidders – which one are you?The ‘Last Minute Bidder’Less than five minutes remaining on this item…your palms are sweaty, you’re clicking and re-clicking refresh, your eyes burn into the screen, seeing the numbers ticking down in those final moments… Will you have the winning bid? Some of us may have played the role of ‘last minute bidder,’ or perhaps been beaten by the infamous last minute bidder. They’re known for appearing in the final moments and stealing the item you’ve devoted the past two weeks of your life watching and waiting. Beware of the last minute bidder, or become one so you don’t miss out!The ‘Set and Forget Bidder’Then there’s the ‘set and forget bidder’ , they avoid the stress of a bidding war, yet may not always win the auction. In other words there the bidder that’s interested but not enough to follow through with keeping an eye on the item to win it. They place a bid, don’t really need the item so forget about it. Sometimes they might enter their maximum budget; yet often have the mentality that if they win they win, if not onto the next auction! The ‘I Will Not Be Beaten’ BidderLastly there is the ‘I will not be beaten’ bidder, they’re determined and driven. They are keyboard warriors dedicating time and money to items that they’re not even sure they really want just so Bidder360 doesn’t. Beware, as the name suggests they WILL not be beaten so you had better hope there is more than one of the item available!

Locals helping locals – our auction for Anglicare
Is there anything that makes you feel better as a person than the feeling you get when you give back? Whether you regularly donate to several charities, or occasionally give to a single cause meaningful to you, it’s the same ‘feel good’ result. You could say we’re addicted to that feeling here at Allbids. Over the years we’ve helped raise millions of dollars for many local community charities. And most recently, our efforts have been directed at running an auction in support of Anglicare, NSW South, NSW West and ACT.These guys are great at what they do – as one of Australia’s largest Christian care organisations, they reach out to thousands of people every year with emotional, social and physical support. And so there was no question we wanted to help them raise much needed funds. Locals helping the locals. No question about it, right? Our auction, which ended on 7 July, saw some amazing items go up for grabs with everything from a hot air balloon flight with Balloon Aloft, to body treatment packages and more. And it was a success! We’re pleased to announce that the Allbids auction for Anglicare helped around $10,900 which is going directly to Anglicare NSW South, NSW West and ACT. The money raised via our auction will support a number of different programs including those for youth services, aged care support, disability services and the homeless.Find out more about Allbids’ current charity auctions and community engagement, and get bidding. It’s an awesome feeling knowing you’re helping out someone in need.

Are you in the catering caper?
We've talked before about how the team at Allbids loves to reuse and recycle. We believe first and foremost that reuse is actually the best form of recycling. So we're always finding people to work with that want to send their items off to be used again and again. And of course, score some coin for their unwanted items.Catering and hospitality is one area that's really growing in this space. We honestly have enough catering and hospitality equipment available to run a new auction for these items every week. The auction closes on Monday each week, and it's an awesome way to pick yourself up some catering equipment without paying through the nose.Perhaps you're keen to start a cooking business at home, want to set up your own commercial kitchen, looking to fit-out a restaurant or cafe, or are just after quality catering and hospitality goods at a great price. You should check out what we've got, and how little you can pick items up for, and you might be pleasantly surprised. Take this week for example, you can bid for smaller items like pot racks, coffee grinder, wine bucket holders and food prep dishes, to much larger items and appliances including electric fryers, plate warmers, benches with splash backs, range stoves and display fridges. And coffee machines too. It's rare to find someone who doesn't appreciate a good coffee and at the moment we have six San Marino commercial coffee machines from Parliament House up for auction - until 28 July. Imagine the people that could have drank the coffee made from those machines! Most of our catering items are second hand, but each week's auction may also include items that are brand new. Score!

Own a piece of Brumbies history – Brum for sale
It’s the end of an era as the UC Brumbies get ready to farewell one of its greatest servants, Brum. The ambulance-turn-Brumbies big mover has been on the road representing the Brumbies for almost a decade however the time has come to part ways.Brumbies Media & Communications Officer Elliot Woods said it is said to see him go.“Brum has been a big part of the Brumbies off-field presence around the ACT for almost a decade and everyone is sad to see him go.“It a pretty unique vehicle that has become a part of the fabric of our club and he will be a fantastic collector’s item for a die-hard Brumbies supporter.“Alternatively someone might see fit to reinvigorate Brum with a new personality. I can’t see him going to back to his days as an emergency services vehicle, but the uses for an old ambulance like Brum are almost limitless in terms of business promotion.“The Brumbies have found fantastic value in Brum and I’m sure his next owner will be just as pleased once he or she turns the ignition on our old, blue mate.”Brum has been listed on local site www.allbids.com.au.The auction for Brum is due to end next Thursday 3 July at 7.30pm.This is your chance to own a genuine piece of UC Brumbies history.Bid for BrumThis article was first published on The Riot ACT Website by Canfan https://the-riotact.com/own-a-piece-of-brumbies-history-brum-for-sale/128570

Silver Linings in a Government Agency Move
Shifting an entire government agency to a new location can be a tricky business, but for small to medium companies or individuals looking to set up shop, it can be a dream opportunity. Thousands of dollars, not to mention days of time can be saved. The professional desks, office chairs and storage units of up to 300 employees can all go on sale at once. Anyone with internet access then has a chance to snatch up as much or as little as they need to set up an office for business or home, for down to 5-10% of the normal cost. Re-selling a $1000 workstation for as little as $50, or an ergonomic, adjustable chair for $20 is par for the course during these transitions, meaning a huge silver lining straight to our smaller, private-sector pockets. In our environmental all-bid (ahem) to re-use and keep assets in rotation rather than stockpiling them in the ground, we make it straightforward for our customers to get to the goods. An agency on the move has left a complete office fit-out of furniture and equipment that is going to auction online at allbids.com.au. The sale will run for another couple of weeks so bid now on Ex-Government Furniture or Ex-Government IT and pick up a bargain!

Our success stories / testimonials OR don't take our word for it...

Menslink
Menslink

Allbids provide an outstanding service to charities like Menslink in a number of ways.

Firstly, Allbids helps us reach audiences well beyond the capacity of Menslink. We’re a very small charity, but having their online platform enables us to achieve much better results than what’s possible with our own resources. At our last auction - which raised over $100,000 for us - we had bidders from all around Australia bid on our items - Allbids managed the payments and collection for us without any issues.

Secondly, Allbids staff were on hand during our Big Night Out to manage the whole process - setting out the displays, helping guests at tables bid for silent auction, managing payments - they couldn't have been more helpful.

Finally, Allbids are always available for the items that we might get to auction from time to time - nothing is too much trouble for them.

Their support for Menslink - and other charities - over the years has been fantastic. They've helped promote our work to their clients, helped us raise far more money from auction items than we could have alone or on other platforms and have been a delight to work with. I could not recommend them more highly and hope to continue the partnership for many years to come

Karinya House
Karinya House

I am writing to extend our sincere appreciation to ALLBids for their recent support of our 2017 Karinya House Annual Mother’s Day Gala Dinner, held on 5 May 2016. We especially thank Jo, Louise and the ALLBIDS staff who assisted with the online auction pages for Karinya House. The support also provided by Jo, Louise and the team at the event itself and post the event to finalise the auction was also outstanding and so greatly appreciated.

Karinya House for Mothers and Babies is a community based, not for profit organisation serving the ACT and surrounding regions. In its twentieth year of operation, Karinya provides supported accommodation and outreach services to pregnant and parenting women in crises and their children. In August 2016 Karinya, with specialist funding for construction from the ACT Government, opened its new Home and transitioned to our purpose-built facility, doubling residential capacity, and creating a designated area for specialised outreach and group services. This new facility, whilst significantly enhancing service delivery, has also increased our annual operating budget.

This is the first year we have had the availability of an Online Auction House to support the Gala Dinner. The Gala Dinner is our premier fundraising event, and it is vital to us that the event generates as much financial support as possible. We were unaware prior to be contacting by Louise, that ALLBIDS offered the Online Auction service to Not for Profit Organisations entirely free of any sales commissions or other fees and charges. We were somewhat apprehensive, as is the case with something new and untried at times, but Louise and Jo, at our first meeting were completely assured that the ALLBIDS service would be fantastic and easy. They, and the ALLBIDS processes and outcomes, did not disappoint. And the whole ALLBIDS experience and result far exceeded our expectations!

As a community based organisation, it is important to note, that we generate around half of our operating revenue each year through financial donations and sponsorships from Corporates, Philanthropic Trusts & Foundations, local businesses, individuals and families. In addition we are supported through pro bono professional services as well as in kind material donations.

The support of ALLBIDS through their Charity & Community Auctions service is an outstanding and innovative form of community engagement. ALLBIDS are to be congratulated on providing this wonderful service and supporting community service organisations such as Karinya House. I am pleased to confirm that for Karinya House, the addition of ALLBIDS as part of our Gala Dinner Event and Team (sorry we are claiming your team as part of our team now!) made a significant difference to the fundraising proceeds from the auction component of our Gala Dinner. Proceeds from the Auction were 73% higher than the prior year’s Gala Dinner. This is outstanding, and it certainly gives us impetus to source a greater number of donations for next year’s Gala Dinner Auctions.

We are very thankful to have ALLBIDS as part of our Karinya family. We do hope this partnership will be one we can rely on for future events. Please extend our thanks to the ALLBIDS Board, Executive and Staff Team for the support provided for the 2017 Gala Dinner. I commend ALLBIDS for their demonstrated professional competence, experience, and dedication, as well as their generosity and example in corporate citizenship and care for some of the most vulnerable women and children in our community.

Car Purchase
Car Purchase

I bought my son a ford laser on here and although it was older (1991) I didn't expect much for our $1200 spent ! Especially considering it had 12months rego. I couldn't have had a more pleasant surprise ! It's a pearler and we found out later my folks new the owner and he was a mechanic who lived opposite them and he nurtured it. It had service books up to date and it runs so so well, uses no oil or water and has brand new tyres ! It's a 1.8 ghia too . The paint is great and the interior is as new . Needless to say my son loves it and has already fitted some nice alloy wheels and a kick ass stereo. The car is Worth twice what we paid for it at retail Level ! All bids rock. Thanks !!!! This is a true testimonial by a real customer !!! I'm not the type to do this either BUT was just so impressed.

No hesitation recommending ALLBIDS service
No hesitation recommending ALLBIDS service

I approached Allbids to assist me to liquidate the plant and equipment owned by one of my clients. The client owned and operated a quarry on the outskirts of Canberra

Following an illness the client needed to completely restructure their business, which resulted in client selling off all the business assets

Due to the size and scale of the operation all the equipment was sold from the existing location. This saved the client valuable time and money by not having to pay removal costs and freight.

Allbids took complete control of the whole operation and used their extensive database to access buyers. The complete process was seamless with Allbids managing all inspections, enquiries, delivery and logistics whilst providing me with a complete audit trail for each asset sold.

I have no hesitation in recommending the services of Allbids. They turned the surplus assets of our client into cash.

Recent car purchase
Recent car purchase

I bought an excellent Subaru L1800 wagon via Allbids' auction site, and I want to report back that the car was in excellent condition, as described. The photos were accurate and showed what I needed to see as a potential buyer.  We were able to inspect the car on location, including starting it and letting it run, and testing the clutch and brakes.

The staff were friendly and helpful. For me, this was a really good experience all around, and I recommend Allbids unreservedly to potential bidders.

I would like to say that Allbids is a brilliant website/service.  For our family it serves as a valuable resource in locating goods we need to buy, as well as purchasing some great bargains.  It has been a fantastic way for me to make some extra cash by selling unwanted goods that we no longer use.

Furnished with items purchased from Allbids
Furnished with items purchased from Allbids

We are building a house and also renovating two existing cottages on a rural property. We have found Allbids to be an excellent source of materials for the renovation job - the cottages will be largely furnished with items purchased from Allbids, and we are using recycled building materials and tools - many of which are also from Allbids.

It will be 12 months before the projects are finished but I will send you photos when complete - might be useful as an example of what can be achieved with the services of Allbids. Thanks again
