DIY TIPS
Do you consider yourself handy? Got yourself a new set of tools? Don't start that DIY project you've been meaning to do before you read this! Here are 10 DIY tips to get you started:1. Large holes from screws or dowels can be fixed by filling it with a wooden golf tee. Use a hacksaw to cut the tee flush to the surface of the wood and sand it to finish.2. Place a rubber band around the opening of an open can of paint. This will give you something to wipe your brush on so that paint doesn’t get in the rim of the can, which will cause it to stick shut once it dries.3. If you’re using machinery where your hands get close to a blade such as a table saw, make a ‘push stick’. Simply cut a notch into the end of a piece of wood so that it can securely push towards the blade.4. When cutting pieces of plywood, the edges quite frequently splinter, making your work look untidy and lower in quality. To improve your cuts, stick masking tape onto the back side of the cut. 5. Do you have extension cords that unplug all the time because they get pulled on? Tie them together before you connect the cords. 6. Sick of hitting your hand when hammering nails? Stop the pain and use a pair of pliers to hold the nail instead! You could also use other items such as a clothes peg or a fine tooth-comb.7. Don’t want to make a mess in the house while drilling into walls? Fold a post-it note in half and stick it to the wall underneath wear you have to drill a hole. All the dust will be caught in the post-it note for an easy clean up! 8. Are your screws a bit loose? First take the screw out and place a toothpick in the hole. Apply some wood glue if needed and simply put the screw back in. 9. Can’t remove a screw because the head of it has been damaged? Place a rubber band over the head of the screw before attempting to remove it to fill the gaps that have been filed away.10. Are you a messy painter? Tape off all areas where you don’t want paint and lay down some old sheets on the floor. This allows you to paint over the tape and not have to worry about being careful. Before removing the tape, gently cut the tape along the edge of the painted surface to avoid pulling of chunks of paint with it.Remember, ALLBIDS.com.au has a great selection of tools and hardware so be sure to check out our auctions for bargains starting as low as $1!

First car – our buyer’s guide
Buying your first car can be a daunting task, whether you’re still in school, about to move away for university; or a parent buying for your teenager. For most budgets, buying a brand spanking new car isn’t an option. Second hand cars are the solution. They can be a lot cheaper, and with a bit of research you can find the right car for your needs. To help with your research, ALLBIDS has compiled a list of things to look out for.1. Is the car automatic or manual? This is the first thing you should check, along with checking whether your license enables you to drive a manual car.Manuals are generally cheaper and more fuel efficient than automatics, although automatics are easier to drive, especially in hilly areas.2. How much are you looking to spend? As stated above, price is an important factor when purchasing your first car. Great deals can be found in the car section of the ALLBIDS website, where cars generally sell for under $5000.You should first decide how much you’re willing to spend, taking into account any additional costs and whether or not you will need to apply for a loan. Additional costs may include registration, insurance, stamp duty and vehicle inspection.3. How will you use the car?The type of car you’re looking to buy will be influenced by how you intend to use it. Driving to and from school/university? Long or short distances? Number of passengers? Will you be in the city or in the country? All of these factors will influence the type of car needed and how you will make your decision.4. Quality and safetyIt’s important to find the right balance between quality and price for the car you’re buying. Some older cars may have more wear and tear than newer models, especially when it comes to the engine. Look for a car that has lower kilometers, a good service history and little to no aesthetic damage, as spare parts for some cars may be hard to find. Also check the safety rating of the car to make sure you’re getting the safest car possible.ALLBIDS CARS invites you to come and check out the cars yourself by appointment. The cars we sell often come from dealerships with no warranty, which can be bought through ALLBIDS from a third party provider.

Beer Hops Charity Auction for beyondblue
ALLBIDS aligned with Hop Product Australia’s (HPA) first ever ‘The 2014 Premiere Crop of the Hops Charity Auction’ to raise money and awareness for beyondblue’s ‘Man Therapy’ initiative. The program provides men suffering from depression and anxiety with strategies designed to protect their well-being and guide them to professional treatment if/when they require support. The 2014 Premiere Crop of the Hops Charity Auction provided ALLBIDS with a whopping 100kg of beer hops for us to auction through our site. Technically, it also meant we needed to develop a custom login page and custom tracking pages for the vendors so that brewers from around the world could sign up.Bidders came from as far away as America and Ireland to put money into the cause, but the bragging rights for the most donated came down to a traditional slugfest between CUB & Lion Nathan. The auction was a huge success, raising around $10,000 for the cause. To find out more about donating items for charity click here:

ALLBIDS and our partnership with provide support Lifeline Canberra
At ALLBIDS it is one of our objectives to support local charity events. This September we have partnered with Lifeline Canberra, alongside The Michael Buhagiar “R U OK” Cup Trivia Night 2014.We are hosting a live charity auction for the benefit, which supports a greater cause for Lifeline Canberra. All  proceeds from the trivia night, and 50% of the profits from the auction items, will go to Lifeline Canberra and will be used to assist with the ongoing services that they provide within the region. The Michael Buhagiar “RUOK?” Cup was first held by the CCSCA in 2010 and remembers  the life of long time CCSCA and Cricket ACT player Michael Buhagiar who tragically took his own life after suffering and struggling with depression for many years. Tammi Horton, Canberra City & Suburban Cricket Association & Last Man Stands Canberra T20 Cricket have come together over the last two years to raise awareness of suicide prevention in the ACT region and raise much needed funds for Lifeline Canberra and the RUOK?Day Foundation. The annual Michael Buhagiar Cup T20 Winter Cricket competition, trivia night and auction has raised just over $10,000 for Lifeline Canberra & The RUOK? Day Foundation.Tammi Horton, Michael’s wife, said “Michael suffered depression most of his adult life. It didn’t always inhibit his daily life but it was like a deep little demon that surfaced every now and then and at times was debilitating. Cricket was a huge part of Michael’s life, Michael not only loved the game but loved the day of chatting with the boys about everything and nothing. He wasn’t one to pick up the phone and call his mates for those chats so really looked forward to Saturdays. It was also an escape for Michael. There are so many resources available to those living with depression however the struggle lies in knowing what it is and where to find it. The first steps are often the hardest, but are vital and a lifeline to someone facing the darkness of suicide. We can’t do anything for Michael now but through the very sad loss and raising awareness we can hope to save another life and another family from the devastation that suicide leaves behind”

ALLBIDS partner with Menslink for charity auction
ALLBIDS have teamed up with local men’s charity, Menslink, to auction off a number of items to raise funds to ensure continued support for young men and their families. Did you know?
  • About 1 in 4 young men suffer depression or anxiety (same as young women), but only 1 in 10 of them will do anything about it
  • More young men die by suicide than on the roads. Lots more. In fact, the male rate of suicide is nearly double the national road toll (and three times that of women)
  • 14% of young men under 18 will have a brush with the law, with the current ratio of young inmates at AMC Detention Centre (under 25yo) is 60:1 male:female
  • Young men drop out of high school at double the rate of young women before completing Y12. Of the group that starts University, young men are twice as likely to drop out before completing a degree
  • 32% of all families now are raised by single mums. We provide a lot of help to single mums as their sons transition through difficult times into adulthood
Menslink is a small charity with seven permanent staff and very low overheads. All of the money raised in the auction will be used directly to provide support to young men in Canberra, through volunteer mentoring services, free counselling and their Silence is Deadly campaign in schools.Menslink has been supporting young men in the Canberra region for over ten years. . During this time  Menslink have helped thousands of young guys get through tough or lonely times and develop into responsible, productive and contributing adult men. This local charity aims to help young men achieve their full potential, because they believe everything is possible for them, their families and our community. All of Menslink’s services are free to young blokes and their families.“All the items in our auction list are donated by generous individuals and businesses, ensuring every dollar raised goes directly into supporting the next generation of Canberran men – men who we want to develop into productive, contributing members of our community. We’re particularly excited to have some famous name Raiders, Brumbies and Wallabies players make themselves available or once-in-a-lifetime experiences. These experiences would be a great way to make your next corporate function, social club event or even kid’s birthday party really stand out. Please bid generously and help us support young guys and their families in need.” – Martin Fisk, Menslink CEO

Ethical disposal methods saved 11 tonnes of unwanted assets from landfill
Unwanted items don’t have to become waste. At ALLBIDS we live by ethical methods of asset disposal. We recently helped one of our valued government vendors dispose of their assets while contributing towards environmental sustainability. It was The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) that were required to downsize during a recent office move. A new office meant new furniture and as a result there were 800 redundant assets of furniture and IT equipment that required disposal.ALLBIDS were able to step in and provide a complete asset disposal solution using the 5 methods of ethical disposal for the Department, as well as provide best value for money during the process. How did we do it?Step 1 We reviewed situation – an audit of assets required to be disposed of and an assessment of Auction Value was undertaken.Step 2 We recovered the assets – assets were divided into groups of commercial value, metal recycling steel, metal recycling copper, metal recycling aluminium, recyclable materials and general waste.Step 3 We reused the assets – assets that were of value and able to be used in a commercial environment were offered via ALLBIDS platform for sale directly from the AIHW premises – the ONSITE & ONLINE methodology proved a huge saving for the Department.Step 4 We recycled – assets that had no reuse value were recycled by classidentified during the ‘recover’ processStep 5 We provided tailored reporting – a comprehensive report of all assets disposed of was provided to the Department so that funds could be allocated appropriately and the assets decommissioned. What did it cost AIHW?AIHW had quotes of $60,000 to remove all assets with a reuse value and $20,000 to remove assets for recycling purposes. An alternative to ALLBIDS would have cost approximately $80,000ALLBIDS were able to provide the entire service to AIHW at a net cost of just $8 153. The savings were approximately $71 000 in value for money over the next best quote. Transparency and environmental contributionThroughout the entire process, ALLBIDS were able to provide transparent disposal AIHW’s of unwanted assets, as well as tailored reporting to meet their business needs. ALLBIDs were able to reuse 6.8 tonnes of AIHW’s redundant assets and recycle a whopping 11.4 tonnes which would have otherwise become landfill. The AIHW were recipients of the ALLBIDS Environmental Sustainability Award for their positive contribution to environmental sustainability. If your business has unwanted assets or you’d like to find out more about how we can help your business gain the best value return and contribute towards environmentally sustainable disposal practices, visit our vendor pagehttp://bit.ly/1i6v6zh and contact us via our contact form.

Our success stories / testimonials OR don't take our word for it...

Menslink
Menslink

Allbids provide an outstanding service to charities like Menslink in a number of ways.

Firstly, Allbids helps us reach audiences well beyond the capacity of Menslink. We’re a very small charity, but having their online platform enables us to achieve much better results than what’s possible with our own resources. At our last auction - which raised over $100,000 for us - we had bidders from all around Australia bid on our items - Allbids managed the payments and collection for us without any issues.

Secondly, Allbids staff were on hand during our Big Night Out to manage the whole process - setting out the displays, helping guests at tables bid for silent auction, managing payments - they couldn't have been more helpful.

Finally, Allbids are always available for the items that we might get to auction from time to time - nothing is too much trouble for them.

Their support for Menslink - and other charities - over the years has been fantastic. They've helped promote our work to their clients, helped us raise far more money from auction items than we could have alone or on other platforms and have been a delight to work with. I could not recommend them more highly and hope to continue the partnership for many years to come

Karinya House
Karinya House

I am writing to extend our sincere appreciation to ALLBids for their recent support of our 2017 Karinya House Annual Mother’s Day Gala Dinner, held on 5 May 2016. We especially thank Jo, Louise and the ALLBIDS staff who assisted with the online auction pages for Karinya House. The support also provided by Jo, Louise and the team at the event itself and post the event to finalise the auction was also outstanding and so greatly appreciated.

Karinya House for Mothers and Babies is a community based, not for profit organisation serving the ACT and surrounding regions. In its twentieth year of operation, Karinya provides supported accommodation and outreach services to pregnant and parenting women in crises and their children. In August 2016 Karinya, with specialist funding for construction from the ACT Government, opened its new Home and transitioned to our purpose-built facility, doubling residential capacity, and creating a designated area for specialised outreach and group services. This new facility, whilst significantly enhancing service delivery, has also increased our annual operating budget.

This is the first year we have had the availability of an Online Auction House to support the Gala Dinner. The Gala Dinner is our premier fundraising event, and it is vital to us that the event generates as much financial support as possible. We were unaware prior to be contacting by Louise, that ALLBIDS offered the Online Auction service to Not for Profit Organisations entirely free of any sales commissions or other fees and charges. We were somewhat apprehensive, as is the case with something new and untried at times, but Louise and Jo, at our first meeting were completely assured that the ALLBIDS service would be fantastic and easy. They, and the ALLBIDS processes and outcomes, did not disappoint. And the whole ALLBIDS experience and result far exceeded our expectations!

As a community based organisation, it is important to note, that we generate around half of our operating revenue each year through financial donations and sponsorships from Corporates, Philanthropic Trusts & Foundations, local businesses, individuals and families. In addition we are supported through pro bono professional services as well as in kind material donations.

The support of ALLBIDS through their Charity & Community Auctions service is an outstanding and innovative form of community engagement. ALLBIDS are to be congratulated on providing this wonderful service and supporting community service organisations such as Karinya House. I am pleased to confirm that for Karinya House, the addition of ALLBIDS as part of our Gala Dinner Event and Team (sorry we are claiming your team as part of our team now!) made a significant difference to the fundraising proceeds from the auction component of our Gala Dinner. Proceeds from the Auction were 73% higher than the prior year’s Gala Dinner. This is outstanding, and it certainly gives us impetus to source a greater number of donations for next year’s Gala Dinner Auctions.

We are very thankful to have ALLBIDS as part of our Karinya family. We do hope this partnership will be one we can rely on for future events. Please extend our thanks to the ALLBIDS Board, Executive and Staff Team for the support provided for the 2017 Gala Dinner. I commend ALLBIDS for their demonstrated professional competence, experience, and dedication, as well as their generosity and example in corporate citizenship and care for some of the most vulnerable women and children in our community.

Car Purchase
Car Purchase

I bought my son a ford laser on here and although it was older (1991) I didn't expect much for our $1200 spent ! Especially considering it had 12months rego. I couldn't have had a more pleasant surprise ! It's a pearler and we found out later my folks new the owner and he was a mechanic who lived opposite them and he nurtured it. It had service books up to date and it runs so so well, uses no oil or water and has brand new tyres ! It's a 1.8 ghia too . The paint is great and the interior is as new . Needless to say my son loves it and has already fitted some nice alloy wheels and a kick ass stereo. The car is Worth twice what we paid for it at retail Level ! All bids rock. Thanks !!!! This is a true testimonial by a real customer !!! I'm not the type to do this either BUT was just so impressed.

No hesitation recommending ALLBIDS service
No hesitation recommending ALLBIDS service

I approached Allbids to assist me to liquidate the plant and equipment owned by one of my clients. The client owned and operated a quarry on the outskirts of Canberra

Following an illness the client needed to completely restructure their business, which resulted in client selling off all the business assets

Due to the size and scale of the operation all the equipment was sold from the existing location. This saved the client valuable time and money by not having to pay removal costs and freight.

Allbids took complete control of the whole operation and used their extensive database to access buyers. The complete process was seamless with Allbids managing all inspections, enquiries, delivery and logistics whilst providing me with a complete audit trail for each asset sold.

I have no hesitation in recommending the services of Allbids. They turned the surplus assets of our client into cash.

Recent car purchase
Recent car purchase

I bought an excellent Subaru L1800 wagon via Allbids' auction site, and I want to report back that the car was in excellent condition, as described. The photos were accurate and showed what I needed to see as a potential buyer.  We were able to inspect the car on location, including starting it and letting it run, and testing the clutch and brakes.

The staff were friendly and helpful. For me, this was a really good experience all around, and I recommend Allbids unreservedly to potential bidders.

I would like to say that Allbids is a brilliant website/service.  For our family it serves as a valuable resource in locating goods we need to buy, as well as purchasing some great bargains.  It has been a fantastic way for me to make some extra cash by selling unwanted goods that we no longer use.

Furnished with items purchased from Allbids
Furnished with items purchased from Allbids

We are building a house and also renovating two existing cottages on a rural property. We have found Allbids to be an excellent source of materials for the renovation job - the cottages will be largely furnished with items purchased from Allbids, and we are using recycled building materials and tools - many of which are also from Allbids.

It will be 12 months before the projects are finished but I will send you photos when complete - might be useful as an example of what can be achieved with the services of Allbids. Thanks again
